Aquilegia scopularum | <\/i>Utah Columbine (white form)<\/p>\n
Utah Columbine is native to the sub-alpine rocky slopes, forests, and meadows in the mountains of Utah, Nevada, Colorado, and Wyoming. Mounding, waxy blue-green foliage grows profuse with dainty, solid white to faded bluish-white long-spurred flowers held on short stems in spring. Plants only reach a few inches tall and may rebloom moderately throughout the summer and into fall. Very cute plants that may readily reseed in the garden.<\/p>\n
Grows best in well-drained soils with low nitrogen or clay soils that dry out. Prefers part shade, but will do well in full sun with irrigation. A great plant for a rock garden type planting.\u00a0 It\u2019s an all time favorite perennial garden and wildflower. Not ideal for humid hot summer areas. Makes an excellent plant for edging, rock gardens, or to add color and texture to a woodland area. Allow plants to self seed for successive generations.<\/p>\n
Seeds may require cold-stratification before sowing indoors, or one can direct-sow them outdoors in autumn or late winter\/spring. They will gladly self sow in soil, gravel, under decks, etc.<\/p>\n
Deer don\u2019t particularly care for Columbine and will usually leave it alone for other treats.<\/p>\n
