Trachelium caeruleum |<\/em> Blue Throatwort ‘Hamer Pandora’<\/p>\n

Blue Throatwort, also known as Blue Lace Flower and Umbrella Flower, is native to areas along the western Mediterranean Sea, in North Africa, Europe and north into Portugal.<\/p>\n

Trachelium caeruleum <\/em>is an herbaceous evergreen perennial that grows as a dense clump 2 to 3 feet round with dark green to reddish-bronze or deep-purple lance-shaped leaves with toothed margins. In spring and summer, large 4-5″ dome-shaped clusters of tiny bright violet-purple flowers form. They are slightly fragrant and somewhat resemble that of a lilac. When dead-headed, plants may rebloom in the fall. Lush potted plants could use some side support to hold the plant in a clump after the top-heavy blooms form.<\/p>\n

Plant in full to part sun in most any well-drained soil with regular irrigation. Looks great in casual cottage gardens, near ponds and other water features, and tucked in between ornamental grasses and other plants. Blue Throatwort ‘Hamer Pandora’ will remain evergreen in the warmest climates, but for most gardeners it can be treated as a semi-hardy deciduous perennial, which can possibly tolerate temperatures as low as 0\u00b0 F. For those who live in extremely cold winter climates, it can be treated as a long-blooming annual.<\/p>\n

Fairly pest free while also attracting birds, butterflies and other beneficial pollinators, which use the flowers as fluffy landing pads.<\/p>\n

Easy to germinate. We recommend starting seeds indoors due to their extremely small size. Do not cover seeds with soil in the germination tray.<\/p>\n
