It is an old Japanese Mophead Hydrangea cultivar believed to have originated as a naturally occurring sport (mutation) where it was known locally as ‘Uzu Ajisai’. It’s known specifically for its unique clusters with unique, tightly cupped, upward-curving waxy-sepals that resemble French-lilac blossoms or popcorn rather than a traditional smooth ball or mophead type. The blooms open as creamy white flowers before turning sky blue (in acidic soil) or light pink (in alkaline soil) and unlike most Bigleaf Hydrangeas, the flowers also carry a light, sweet fragrance, making ‘Ayesha’ one of the few hydrangeas appreciated as much for its scent as for its appearance.

The plant forms a vigorous, upright, rounded deciduous shrub with large, glossy green leaves and produces showy flower heads that remain attractive for weeks, gradually developing antique shades as they age and making excellent additions to both fresh and dried floral arrangements.

‘Ayesha’ thrives in morning sun with afternoon shade or bright filtered light, although it tolerates more sun in cooler climates provided the soil remains consistently moist. Prefers fertile, organically rich, well-drained soil and benefits from regular watering during dry periods. A light application of compost or a balanced fertilizer in spring will encourage vigorous growth and abundant flowering.

With its extraordinary flower form, delicate fragrance, and reliable garden performance, Hydrangea ‘Ayesha’ remains one of the most unusual and elegant mophead hydrangeas ever introduced, making it an exceptional specimen plant, foundation shrub, woodland accent, or feature in cottage and shade gardens.

Type: Deciduous perennial shrub

Sun exposure: Morning sun to part shade

Mature height: 5–6 ft

Mature width: 5–6 ft

USDA Hardiness Zones: 6–9

The plant you will receive will be one of these plants or a similar one- 6-18 inches tall

Please note: We ship plants orders out on Mondays and Tuesdays only.

[4616

post-43178","product","type-product","status-publish","has-post-thumbnail","product_cat-plant-starts","product_shipping_class-rooted-plant-quart","first","instock","taxable","shipping-taxable","purchasable","product-type-simple","add-to-wishlist-before_image
["GET
