They are named after their flowers, which look like a dragons face. Like most spring-blooming flowers, Antirrhinums are best sown indoors a few weeks before the expected last frost date in spring. Plants will thrive in the cooler temperatures of late spring and are happiest in sunny locations with rich, well-drained soil. These snapdragons are same fun flowers as taller snapdragon varieties, but on a charming, more compact plant. They are dwarf in size, reaching no more than 12 inches, making them a perfect size for containers or edging the garden bed. The flowers are fragrant and bloom in colors ranging from white, yellow, orange, pink, red., and bicolor combinations.

Blooms can tolerate some frost, but a heavy frost will take them out, so they are generally grown as an annual in colder climates. In warmer climates they act as a short-lived perennial where they may blossom all winter. Expect volunteer plants the following year from this self-seeding annual.
