Description
Campanula punctata | Red Spotted Bellflower ‘Rubriflora’
Red-spotted Bellflower, also known as Canterbury Bells, Long-flowered Harebell, Bellflower, and Cherry Bells, is a charming upright, clump-forming perennial flower that creeps along by underground rhizomes. Nestled along bronze-flushed stems are 2-inch long pendulant, dusky-pink bell-shaped flowers, overlaid with creamy edges and freckles of intense crimson spots. At the very peak of flowering, the entire plant is covered with large flowers that will attract admiring glances from afar, making it a true garden standout.
Grows well in sun or part shade, preferring part shade in warmer locations. Regular water, and does well in average, rich, and well-drained soil. Suitable for beds, borders, and ground covers. They are low maintenance, which is always helpful for the busy gardener. For prolonged blooms, cut the peduncle after flowering to form a new young rosette. Plants typically live for 3-5 years in one place. Spread via seed and vegetatively, by root offspring.
Campanula punctata attracts hummingbirds, butterflies, and bees to your garden while being resistant to deer and rabbits. They are fragrant too, and make great cut flowers.
