B. alternifolia ‘Argentea’ x B. crispa | Butterfly Bush ‘Longstock Silver’
‘Longstock Silver’ Butterfly Bush, made in 2000 by Peter Moore, is a hardy, deciduous small to medium-sized shrub. The leaves are soft and felted, like B. crispa or B. agathosma, and the flowers are lilac with a pale eye (also like B. crispa) in cylindrical panicles from mid-summer into October. Aromatic flowers.
Grows best in full sun in sharply drained, sandy or gravely soils. Does not like overly wet conditions. Hard prune after flowering to control size.
‘Longstock Silver’ flowers are sterile and do not set seed.
