Description
Zephyranthes dichromantha | Two-colored Rain Lily
Two-colored Rain Lily, also commonly called Two-colored Zephyranthes, Fairy Lily, Zephyr Lily, Magic Lily, and Rainflower is a perennial bulbous flower species in the Amaryllidaceae family known for producing grass-like foliage and crocus-like flowers. True to their name, Rain Lilies burst into flower a couple days after a summer thunderstorm ends a period of dryer weather, sending up a solitary flower that opens straight up. Zephyranthes dichromantha are characterized by their reddish markings on the reverses of the soft yellow colored flowers, which bloom from mid-spring to early fall.
They are popular in borders, rock gardens, and containers, thriving in sun to partial shade and are not particular about soil conditions.. In time, they form a strong patch of foliage, multiplying both by bulb offsets and by seeds (sometimes into the lawn). Fairly tender to severe winter conditions.
