Description
Sidalcea malviflora | Prairie Mallow hybrid ‘Party Girl’
Mallows are one of the most notable and important plant families in the world. They make wonderful ornamental garden plants and are widely cultivated as herbs and for food. There are over 1000 species of mallows, and although most of them are tropical, many are suitable as perennial ornamentals in temperate gardens.
Prairie Mallow, also known as Checker Mallow, Miniature Hollyhock, and Dwarf Checkerbloom, is an herbaceous perennial flowering plant native to the US West Coast. ‘Party Girl’ Mallow is a shorter and more compact cultivar than the species that features spire-like racemes of small, pink, five-petaled, hollyhock-like flowers on multi-branching upright stems. ‘Party Girl’ is a shorter and more compact cultivar than the species, reaching 2-3 ft tall. Blooms from summer through fall when deadheaded.
Tough, long lived and tolerant of less than perfect soil, but gives the best show in consistently moist, fertile, loamy soils. Prefers cooler summers and generally does not perform well in hot and humid climates. May self-seed.
Great cut flowers. Attracts butterflies!
