White Mullein is a flowering plant that’s native to Europe and Central Asia. Rare in cultivation, it’s a tough, hardy, biennial forms narrow upright spikes of silver-green dusty foliage and long flowering stalks with clusters of loosely separated pure white flowers.
Grows in waste places and calcareous banks on dry soils. Suitable for sandy, loamy and heavy clay soils and prefers well-drained soil. Full sun. Does not grow well in shade. Plant skeletons typically last throughout the winter.
The tiny seeds are abundant and can remain viable in the soil for decades. Mulleins can be easily managed by manually removing the plants before seed-set, not disturbing the soil, or by establishing dense vegetative cover that will prevent seed germination.
