Description
Lavatera trimestris (synonyms Althaea trimestris, Lavatera trimestris)| Rose Mallow ‘Loveliness’
Mallows are one of the most notable and important plant families in the world. They make wonderful ornamental garden plants, and are also widely cultivated as herbs or for food. There are over 1000 species of mallows, and although most of them are tropical, many are suitable as perennial ornamentals in temperate gardens.
Rose Mallow ‘Loveliness’, also known as annual mallow, royal mallow, regal mallow, tree mallow, and common annual tree mallow, is a favorite among gardeners. The leaves are spirally arranged, and palmately lobed; flowers are funnel-shaped in shades of white and pink, with dark centers and maroon veining on the petals. Plants grow quickly and bloom heavily. Does well in most soils with little care. Grows best when direct-sown outdoors (after last frost) as seeds sometimes do not transplant well. May set seed for blooms the following year.
Mallows attract butterflies, beneficial insects and hummingbirds.
