Description
Buddleja interspecies hybrid | Butterfly Bush ‘Orange Sceptre’ (B. stachyoides x B. tubiflora)
This inter-species hybrid is a cross of two naturally occurring Buddleja/Buddleia species- B. stachyoides and B. tubiflora. Plants grow to 3- 8′ tall. Drought-tolerant, deer-resistant, and adored by hummingbirds. The 1 ft long terminal spikes of bright orange flowers on ‘Orange Scepter” open from the bottom to the top, sometimes nearly year-round in mild climates (zones 9 and above). Here in zone 8 its still sporting flowers well into January. Will die back around 22 degrees F and will return the following spring. Root hardy to at least 14 degrees F. Great for sun rooms since it flowers all winter.
These seeds were collected from a row of open-pollinated ‘Orange Sceptre’ plants. These have been fully tested and every single one grows out to look exactly like the parent(s) with just the slightest variation in orange flower color. Germinate with heat and humidity like you would most plants. Plants start out extremely tiny, so the most delicate of care must be taken for the first few weeks. Do not cover tiny seeds with soil.
We’ve not seen these seeds for sale anywhere and as far as we can tell we are the only ones IN THE WORLD to offer them. We’ve loved this Buddleja variety ever since we first laid eyes on it.
