B. alternifolia x B. caryopteridifolia | Butterfly Bush ‘Unique’
‘Buddelja Unique’ Butterfly Bush is a special and rare hybrid plant bred by Peter Moore in England that is best characterized by its compact and bushy habit, its prolific clusters of lilac-purple, delightfully aromatic flowers, and its extra long and repeating bloom season from June through October. ‘Unique’s branches are covered with masses of graceful, lilac-purple flower panicles.
This butterfly bush has a maximum size of 4 ft tall and and 2.5 ft wide. Buddleja ‘Unique’ loves a spot in the full sun, in well drained and fertile soil. It’s winter hardy to USDA zone 6.
Flowers on new wood and the blooms are sterile and do not set seed. Prune after flowering to stimulate new growth.
Thrives in well-drained, fertile soil in a sunny spot. Makes a fantastic patio container plant.
Like most Buddlejas, Unique is best pruned in April.
