Description
Echium sventenii | Sventenii Echium
Sventenii Echium, sometimes referred to as Adeje Taginaste, is an extremely rare, middle-sized, multi-branching perennial shrub similar to Echium virescens, yet more compact in all parts. The leaves are alternate and silver-green in color. The beautiful candle-like inflorescences are thin and cylindrical with white blush and light blue flowers. Beautiful to look at, but not to touch because the leaves and stalks are armed with sharp hairs like most Echium species.
Native to the Canary islands, southwest Tenerife, Madre del Agua ravine where they grow on arid south-facing slopes, amongst the succulent shrubs below the pine forests, occurring between 900-2400 ft above sea level.
Requires a well drained, rather inorganic soil and be careful not to over-water as it doesn’t like its roots overly wet, particularly when its also cold.
Its best to start seeds indoor with heat, humidity, and light.
