Description
Zephyranthes hybrid | Rain Lily ‘Sunset Strain’
Rain Lily, also commonly called Fairy Lily, Zephyr Lily, Magic Lily, and Rainflower is a perennial bulbous flower species in the Amaryllidaceae family known for producing grass-like foliage and crocus-like flowers. True to their name, Rain Lilies burst into flower a couple days after a summer thunderstorm ends a period of dryer weather where ‘Sunset Strain’ sends up beautiful pinkish-orange flowers with yellow center that appear to glow in sunlight and bloom from mid-spring to early fall. It is said to be a stable hybrid that grows true from seed.
They are popular in borders, rock gardens, and containers, thriving in sun to partial shade and are not particular about soil conditions.. In time, they form a strong patch of foliage, multiplying both by bulb offsets and by seeds (sometimes into the lawn). Fairly tender to severe winter conditions.
