Description
Nigella orientalis | Love-in-mist ‘Transformer’
An unusual, hard to find Love-in-a-Mist variety, ‘Transformer’, also known as ‘Jesters Hat’ and Fennel Flower boasts intriguing visual and textural interest. Love-in-a-Mist is eye-catching when sown as drifts in borders.
Nigella transformer is a hardy, cool-season annual with fine textured lacy foliage with golden-yellow star-like flowers at the end of each branch. ‘Transformer’ has several stages of development in which the elements of the flower structure change and mature – all of which are excellent for harvesting to use either fresh or dried. For the longest vase life, harvest when flowers are fully open (buds will not open after cutting), or when the seed pods have began to develop.
Direct sow seeds in early spring once soil temperatures have warmed up. Will self-sow moderately well each year.
