Lupinus rivularis | Riverbank Lupine
Riverbank Lupine, also commonly known as river lupine, streambank lupine, and stream lupine, is native to Western North America where its found on the west side of the Cascade Mountains from Point Reyes California to Southern British Columbia (where it is endangered). Grows on road verges, open woods, and gravelly areas, usually associated with streams or riverbanks.
A Lupine with a spreading shrubby habit that stays evergreen throughout the winter. Grows 3 ft x 3 ft. The flowers are a beautiful Lupine-blue with a white keel that erupt in late April through early July. Very pretty when in bloom and is a very important plant for the pollinators and other insects who feast on its flowers and leaves.
Riverbank Lupine grow best in full sun in moist, well-drained soil. Low maintenance. Start from seed indoors or out. Will sprout with heat, humidity and light. Protect young plants from slugs and snails. Deer and rabbit resistant.
