Description
Epipremnum aureum| Pothos ‘N’Joy’
Epipremnum aureum, commonly known as Devils Ivy, is one of the most popular houseplants in the world and are well-known for their ease of growth, versatility, long life, and outright hardiness. They are living air purifiers that remove common household contaminants from the air, making them a healthy and attractive addition to your home
‘N’Joy’ Pothos is an Epipremnum cultivar with variegated white and green leaves and a compact, bushy shape. This unique plant was discovered by plant breeder Ashish Arvind Hansoti in a commercial greenhouse in Mumbai, India, in 2002. It was a naturally-occurring mutation of the Marble Queen pothos, with shorter leaf internodes and distinct portions of white variegation. After 25 generations of propagation, the plant’s leaf patterns and shape were stabilized, and it was introduced to the market in 2009 under the name NJOY. With its compact growth habit, the plant has shorter gaps between leaf nodes, giving it a bushier appearance. The leaves are smaller and may have a triangular or oval shape with a lightly ruffled texture.
Pothos will grow in most soil conditions, dry or wet, and will even grow in pure water. They prefer to be in a bright, well-lit environment indoors, but they will tolerate lower light levels too, because they are a shade plant outdoors, after all. N’Joy Pothos will thrive as long as it receives adequate water and light. Since this variety has a slower growth rate than other pothos cultivars, it won’t need as much water as a Golden or Marble Queen. N’Joy Pothos makes a great plant for hanging baskets or for hanging over a tall bookcase in the home. Fertilizer is optional for Pothos. If you use any at all, less is more.
As a means of troubleshooting, browning leaves are usually a result of under-watering or a lack of humidity, while yellowing leaves may occur due to over-watering, exposed to too much direct sunlight, or not enough sunlight.
