Adeje Sow-thistle is an herbaceous perennial that’s endemic to the Canary Islands, found in Tenerife.
‘Adeje’ is a word of Guanche origin, the language of the indigenous people of the Canary Islands, and it is believed to mean “mountain range” or “mountain massif” referring to the mountainous terrain in the area where the town of Adeje, located in Tenerife, is situated; essentially, the name reflects the geography of the region.
Sonchus fauces orci has a stem up to 18 inches tall with lobed leaves are arranged in rosettes and inflorescences with 3-15 heads of bright yellow dandelion-like flowers with beautiful red bracts.
Grows in walls, on cliffs, and in damp and shady terraces, containers and in-ground. Does well in average, rich and well-drained soil.
Attracts bees, making it an excellent addition to pollinator gardens.
