Description
Zinnia elegans | Elegant Zinnia ‘Lilliput Mix’
Zinnia elegans, known as elegant zinnia, common zinnia, and youth-and-age is native to Mexico. When it was introduced to Europeans, the flowers were once referred to as poorhouse flower and everybody’s flower because they were so common and easy to grow. They were also once popularly called “youth and old age” because the old blooms stay fresh as new blooms open.
Zinnias are hardy and do well in most environments. The Lilliput Mix is a medium height, mildew-resistant, early-flowering Zinnia variety. Plants are floriferous. The double pom-pom flowers are produced in profuse colors including red, pink, orange, yellow and cream. They are stunning in cottage and informal gardens, the front of borders, beds, and containers. Successive sowing every few weeks beginning from April through early July will ensure continuous flowering throughout summer, from July to first frosts.
Zinnias are the perfect cut flower– the more you cut, the more you get! Hummingbirds and bees love them, while deer will leave them alone.
