Consolida ajacis | Rocket Larkspur ‘Light Blue’
Rocket Larkspur, also called Giant Larkspur, Garden Larkspur, and Annual Delphinium, is a wonderful annual flower that comes in a wide range of colors. The name Larkspur refers to the shape of the spurred calyx, with “Delphinium” reserved for its perennial relatives. Consolida (Larkspur) is sometimes included in the genus Delphinium, but is considered to be a separate genus botanically.
Rocket Larkspur ‘Light Blue’ is a cool weather showy annual that grows to 2-3 ft tall on stems clad with deeply cut, palmate leaves. Stunning light blue to lavender flowers bloom on spike-like racemes in early summer in cool northern climates. Great for beds, borders and cottage gardens.
Full sun, but will tolerate some light afternoon shade in hot summer climates. Deadhead spent flowers to prolong bloom. Prefers well-drained and evenly moist soil. Avoid wet soils.
Germination notes: Sow seeds indoors 6-8 weeks before your last frost. Germination may take a couple weeks or more and may be sporadic. To improve the germination rate, chill seeds one week before sowing. Seeds require darkness to germinate and do not germinate well above 55F- keep cool.
